Many experts today are teaching emotional intelligence. People go to seminars, take classes, and generally pay a lot of cash to listen to someone teaching about emotional intelligence.

However, one cannot help but ask about the reason for all of this. Why is it that there are people who are focused in teaching about emotional intelligence?

People want to learn – Of course, this reason is at the core of teaching emotional intelligence. After all, who will be willing to teach if there’s no one to learn? People are occupied in teaching about emotional intelligence simply because people want to know more about it. People may believe that learning about it can improve their lives. People may want to learn about it simply because of the fact that it presents new possibilities for them. Whatever the case, there would be no one teaching about emotional intelligence if no one was willing to learn.

Of course, this aspect includes the financial benefits of teaching about emotional intelligence. Since people are willing to learn about the subject, they are willing to pay to study. Teaching about emotional intelligence has turned out to be a very profitable business.

It involves a change in perspective – At the heart of every person teaching about emotional intelligence, there is a soul who wants to change the world. Today, there are not many things that can do that. The progress of knowledge has accelerated to a point that people are rarely surprised by new ideas.

This contradicts the fact that we live in a world ruled by change. Change is a part of our reality. Some people may shun change, but our reality demands it. We need change in order to grow. We need change in order to survive. However, because of technology, it seems that there may be nothing left that can change our world for the better. It seems that the only change we can now expect will come in the form of our extinction.

Emotional intelligence, however, involves a new frontier in education. Those teaching about emotional intelligence find themselves facing a whole new trove of ideas. Because of emotional intelligence they are faced with the prospect of actually being able to change lives. This is a very appealing incentive to a teacher.

It is a learning process – Teaching about emotional intelligence also involves learning. Teachers find that there are still things about emotional intelligence that they do not know anything about. Through teaching about emotional intelligence they are faced with problems seeking solutions. Thus, they are able to improve their lives by helping to improve others.

Man constantly seeks knowledge. It is through knowledge that we attain progress. Teaching is one of the few professions that enable a person to continue on the quest for knowledge while imparting what he or she has learned.

Teaching about emotional intelligence also allows a person to explore his or her own ideas. Through teaching about emotional intelligence, people are able to examine themselves and unlock mysteries about their personalities. They are able to impart a great gift to their students.

These are just some of the reasons for teaching about emotional intelligence. Imparting knowledge is the reason why man has reached the level of civilization that we enjoy today. Through teaching about emotional intelligence, people are trying to ensure that this knowledge stays intact for many generations to come.

No one knows you better than yourself. And this must be justified.

Knowing oneself is the ideal case for us yet only a few have ever achieved this specific state. Many may claim that they are fully aware of the emotions underlying their personalities or the triggering instances that would help these emotions rise. Many may pretend that they understand themselves fully and that they have the proper concepts of themselves. Some may even go further as to claiming that they discern the reality of their lives. These may be true. The sad truth though is that achieving that ideal state takes deep realization and acceptance of things.

We, men, have the tendency to blind ourselves of our flaws. We are too myopic to see our imperfections. We say that we love everything that we are and have accepted ourselves fully. But once we are confronted with situations that will open our eyes to the truths, that would only be the time when we begin to see the realities.

An emotional intelligence test will work like an eye opener to us. This will help us appreciate our flaws and our imperfections. If somebody comes to you now and say that you lack emotional intelligence, would you even listen to him?

There are reasons why you would not. One, it may be that you’re all too convinced that you lack nothing. Or two, you just don’t have enough trust on the person. There may be other reasons but central to them is your non-acceptance of the realities.

If you would not bargain with what a fellow may tell you, then you can atleast consider the facts that an emotional intelligence test may reveal.

Everyone wants to be perfect. The more we drive ourselves to perfection, the more we get frustrated. This can be achieved yet the stakes of achieving it are too low.

There are no perfect emotions and there are no perfect reactions to specific stimuli. It’s just that we develop certain emotions only according to the conditions by which we are or were subjected to. Your emotional intelligence is only the product of your reactions.

Thus, if you reacted negatively on a specific condition, it is but likely that you have developed a portion of your emotional intelligence based on that negative reaction. If so, then you might have flaws in you. The problem is, we rarely recognize our flaws unless we are exposed to conditions that would provide the means to make us face our blemishes. And that exactly is the reason why an emotional intelligence is used- to help us know about ourselves more.

Being a crucial part of our individuality, people are becoming aware of developing their emotional intelligence so as to create fuller lives. Emotional intelligence tests are now being integrated with the four walls of classrooms to help educators determine the potentials and true characteristics of the individuals they are dealing with.

Emotional intelligence test is now also being administered at any institutions imaginable so as to avoid failures in knowing a person more.

Becoming fully aware of our emotional intelligence and the facets that encircle our personalities will help enrich our knowledge of ourselves. Thus, we will be helped in creating better persons from the person we are now. In the end, our claim of knowing ourselves will no longer be a veil that we use to hide our imperfections but a mirror that will reflect the self that lies within.

Aside from the conventional measure of intelligence that we know of (IQ), there are other intelligence that we can use as the bases for assessing people.

The innate capabilities of human have various facets and should not only be limited to one or two measurements. In fact, there are multiple types of intelligence that may appear in various intensities and combinations for people. Some may be lacking with one and some may have a good mixture of most intelligence. That variety of combinations stems from the development of the person and is largely determined by the type of environment and the biological factors relating to his development of such intelligence.

Men are a mixture of different preferences, personalities, attitudes, strengths and weaknesses. It is therefore not suitable for anyone to typify one person into a single category of multiple intelligence. One may find his strength in intrapersonal intelligence but may find numbers or logical analysis boring. Or others are specially gifted with music but lack the skill to analyze spatial problems. Thus, over reliance on the value of a single aspect of intelligence will in the end prove to be counter-active.

Say for example, there are people who are intellectually competent yet unfit for social interaction. Or there are those who have talents in kinesthetic but not as good with language use and linguistics. There are cases though that one has developed skills in a single intelligence and in the process, has developed other types. This goes true with music and kinesthetic and vice versa.

The closest that we can relate to emotional intelligence though are the interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence, the latter having the closest association.

Intrapersonal intelligence is the ability to become self-aware, to delve deep into one’s own personality and to become capable of having a complete understanding of oneself. This also goes to show that people with high intrapersonal intelligence are good at personal cognizance, at identifying changes and reactions to personal thoughts, behaviors and understanding one’s own behaviors at any given situation. They also have the skills to understand other people and to build harmonious relationship with the people surrounding them while being able to understand their emotions to use these in maintaining relationships.

Having said that, it is obvious that our understanding of intrapersonal intelligence is closely intertwined with our knowledge on emotional intelligence. There is too little difference between the two. Only, intrapersonal intelligence is much too focused on self-discovery and self-reflection while emotional intelligence deals more on the emotions that would create better judgments for a person.

Since emotional intelligence covers one’s ability to maintain relationships, it would be good to discuss here in brief examples of interpersonal skills that are crucial in developing emotional intelligence.

Central to this empathy. People with higher interpersonal intelligence are those who have heightened sensitivity to other people’s feelings which in turn helps them interpret reactions and behaviors that are vital in sustaining good relationship with others. They also have the skills to influence other people and to counsel them. Thus, they may affect others in planned ways.

The examples we have given on both interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence are deemed to find the links between emotional intelligence and various aspects of personality. Remember though that emotional intelligence is still a separate field which must be treated in manners applicable only to this relatively new area of psychology. Nonetheless, our knowledge on the relationships between the three will all lead to better judgements when discussing emotional intelligence.

“Fickle-minded” is a term that comes to mind when describing people. This is because of the fact that people change all the time. They change their preferences in terms of clothing, shelter, entertainment, fashion and a lot of other factors in what people refer to as “life”.

Writers need to keep up with the trends of the different preferences of people in order to keep creating interesting works. This is especially true for nonfiction writers. They need to study the current trends in order to be able to write pieces that can be considered viable in the world of literature.

One of the latest changes that have hit the world is a change of views about emotions. In the past, people believed that emotions are the direct opposite of rational thought. Many people did not consider the possibility that we had emotions for reasons other than to distract us. People thought that emotions were to be ignored if a person wanted to be successful in life.

However, recent studies have shown that people tend to be more successful if they are emotionally intelligent. That is, they need to have the ability to understand emotions in order to make the right decisions in life. There is proof that emotions work together with intellect in order to help us live a more successful life.

Writers need to consider this shift in thinking when they are working. They need to take into consideration the implications of this revolution and incorporate it into their pieces. They need examples of writing that have emotional intelligence in order to base their works on. How can examples of writing that have emotional intelligence help the writer?

Connection – In the past, nonfiction writers often wrote in a very impersonal manner. They were often advised to leave feelings out of their works. Nowadays however, writers have discovered that they need to include emotions in their work to be able to attract more readers. They need examples of writing that have emotional intelligence in order to learn how to connect with their readers in a deeper level than the intellect.

Of course, people read articles in order to feed their mind. However, readers stick to a writer if the writer touches their emotions in a very profound manner. That is the secret to being a good writer.

Creativity – In order to unleash pent-up creativity, a writer needs to tap into his or her emotions. For some, the first experience of unleashing your emotions into your writing can be a frightfully confusing time. However, with examples of writing that have emotional intelligence, a writer will be able to learn how to channel these emotions properly. The examples of writing that have emotional intelligence may serve as guides, allowing a writer to tap into his or her emotions carefully.

Because of examples of writing that have emotional intelligence, writers will be able to channel their creativity properly and not exhaust their emotional reserves. There is a theory that some writers experience the so-called “writer’s block” because the exhaust their supply of emotions. By using examples of writing that have emotional intelligence, they will be able to avoid this catastrophe and continue on writing great pieces.

By making use of emotional intelligence in their work, writers can make sure that they will be able to produce more quality pieces for people to enjoy and learn from.

People like to think that they know themselves better than anyone. People claim that they know their houses better than anyone else. They claim that they know their neighborhoods like the back of their hands. People just love to claim that they know all about their lives. When it comes to personalities and emotions, however, the reality is often the opposite of the claim.

We tend to blind ourselves to our own flaws. We like to think that we know everything about our personalities and emotions, but the truth remains that most people fail to see their own imperfection.

Take the case of emotional intelligence. A person, when he or she hears about the importance of emotional intelligence in life, immediately begins to think about the other people whom he or she thinks is lacking in emotional intelligence. Very few people actually take the time to examine themselves to see if they are lacking in emotional intelligence.

This is the reason why a person needs to get emotional intelligence tests. You see, a person needs to realize just how much the issue of emotional intelligence is affecting his or her life. The best way to open someone’s eyes to his or her flaws is to make them realize it themselves. If someone walked up to you right now and said “You are lacking in emotional intelligence.” Would you believe him?

A person needs to be shown proof of his or her flaws before he or she will believe it. The beauty of emotional intelligence tests is that these tests allow you to prove just how correct you are in your self-perception. By taking an emotional intelligence test, you will open yourself up to the possibility that you may not know yourself as well as you think you do. This change in perception helps you adjust your attitude so that you will be more perceptive to improvement.

Another advantage of taking an emotional intelligence test is the fact that a person can pinpoint the specific area of emotional intelligence where he or she is lacking. Through an emotional intelligence test, a person can learn which part of emotional intelligence he or she should focus on cultivating.

Emotional intelligence tests can also help someone realize the potential of having emotional intelligence. Through these tests, a person will learn how to properly make use of emotional intelligence in day-to-day living. Because of this, a person will be able to live a more successful and more fulfilled life.

Emotional intelligence tests can also tell a person just how much he or she is able to relate with other people. Social interaction can be very important in life. This is true. Whether you are a student or a worker, you need others to help you along life’s road. Emotional intelligence tests can help you develop your ability to perceive how other people are feeling. This ability helps you understand the people around you. Understanding is the key to knowledge. Once you are able to at least get some insight into a person’s emotions you should have no trouble including him or her in your personal circle.

Emotional intelligence tests are great because they allow a person to see the truth. We all know that the greatest hindrance to the truth can be found within one’s self. An emotional intelligence test can get past a person’s defenses and allow that person to evaluate him/her self objectively.

It has become a trend in self-help industry that to be able to succeed, one has to be aware of his or her emotions. They are justified yet why?

There is no exact answer to that but we might shed light to some of the undiscovered facts once we recognize that emotions truly help us experience life more. Once we are so immersed in a specific emotion, say happiness or fear, we tend to understand in part or in full the meaning of the experience or the depth of our emotions. We cannot have a generalization on this and each experience is as varied as the prints of our fingers. The realization, in most cases, just dawn depending on how one savored the experience.

Emotions set us apart from other people. They determine the way we act and give “reasons” as to why we act the way we do or why people behave in the manner they do. Emotions set our personal boundaries and in a sense, limit us from becoming ourselves in making us realize the exact people we want. Emotions help us communicate our feelings and our reactions towards things without having to say them orally. Thus, in the general picture, emotions affect the way we lead our lives, either to perdition or to success. But these of course are yet to be affected by other factors essential to living.

There are various divisions of emotional intelligence. These include self awareness, emotional sensitivity, emotion management, self motivation and the ability to handle relationships.

In order for anyone to improve his or her emotional intelligence, one must gather some understanding on these various areas. After all, the methods that you will use in improving your emotional intelligence will be cored between these five aspects.

The first thing you would want to do is to develop your self awareness. That way, you will be able to fully know the extent of your emotions and the meanings they bear. No one can help you here better than yourself since no one knows you better than you.

The perfect connection you can make to allow communication between you and your inner self is meditation. Relaxation and proper observance of yourself are the keys. Let your thoughts flow in the process and don’t make immediate judgements. Don’t even make analysis yet. After your meditation then comes the realization from all the questions that would crop up.

Once you have connected yourself with the self that resides in you who has the better understanding of the pool of emotions you are experiencing, it would now be time to take the responsibility over your own emotions. Better understanding leads to better judgement. One you understand yourself fully, then would only come the time for you to really determine the emotions you must accept and retain and the emotions you have for long, denied.

And on the juncture of knowing yourself, you will understand that your emotions are not the full embodiment of your being you. There is no such thing as bad emotions. Remember that every bit of emotion that you are experiencing is your reactions to specific stimulations. Do not make assumptions on how bad you are based on the wrong emotions that came out from you. The opposite is also true. Making self-judgments will never make you a better person.

Human emotion can be a very powerful thing. Although it is our knowledge that we utilize in the progress of the human race, it is our emotional intelligence that determines just how much progress we are willing to make.

People have only recently realized just how much emotional intelligence can affect our lives. In fact, emotional intelligence is an essential part of our existence. Even if we have exceptional abilities, they are useless without emotional intelligence. These two characteristics need to be in balance in order to have a fulfilled life.

Many people have begun to realize our need to cultivate emotional intelligence and thus, have sought ways to fulfill that need. Emotional intelligence workshops, self-help books, seminars, and other types of activities and materials have been made available to help us increase our emotional intelligence.

In this article, we will focus in one subject in particular. How can emotional intelligence workshops help you as a human being?

Before we answer this question, we need to know what an emotional intelligence workshop is. An emotional intelligence workshop is an activity designed to help groups of people cultivate their emotional intelligence through different techniques. Here are some ways how emotional intelligence workshop can help you succeed in life:

Decision-making – In life, we face decisions all of the time. Sometimes, those decisions involve a lot of thinking. Decisions need to be thought about before implementing. However, there are times when we let our emotions take over and we make decisions that we are sure to regret.

An emotional intelligence workshop can help us learn how to distinguish our emotions from our thoughts. Because of this, an emotional intelligence workshop can help us sort out our decisions based on what we think is best. We will not be prone to irrational action.

Social interaction – Emotional intelligence not only involves your emotions but other people’s emotions as well. An emotional intelligence workshop can teach you how to understand the emotions of the people around you. This, of course, will help you create better ties with those people.

We all know how important other people can be in order to succeed in life. This is not a question of using other people to get what you want, but it is a question of reality. In life today, it is sometimes true that who you know matters more than what you know. By learning about other people’s emotions, you learn how to interact with the people you may encounter in life. You will learn how to deal with an irritable boss. You will learn how to deal with disgruntled employees. In a sense, you will acquire the skills you need to face the fact that you need other people.

Stress management – There are times in life when we feel distress. During these times, a heavy emotional burden may cause us to lose sight of the joy of life. Emotional intelligence workshops can prepare us for these episodes and help us realize that despair does not answer anything.

Emotional intelligence workshops can prove to be very useful when you are faced with heavy emotional burden. It can either be your burden or another person’s. An emotional intelligence workshop can equip you with the ability you need to deal with the situation in the best way possible.

The trend shows that we are moving towards the complete acceptance of emotional intelligence concepts into schools. Many are now viewing learning institutions as an organic environment where players and actors all play to interact with each other. In the process, they become either productive or not within this environment.

This metaphor is well adopted by those who intend to lengthen the capacity and to increase the efficiency of learning institutions for wholesome learning. To adopt completely the functional environment a living organisms has, advocates of this principle emphasize the value of daily negotiations and internal communication within the circle of those involved into the system of schools.

Schools are known to contribute greatly in the development of a person’s individuality. This is the sight of first exposure to the realities of life, which will further be used during mature age. Though schools may have been well-established institutions, they still lack systematic methodologies that will improve specific skills closely associated with emotions and emotional intelligence.

While many are yet to find wisdom in integrating teachings on emotional intelligence in schools, it is pretty obvious that a knowledge of such deep value will not just help a learning institution in helping people learn but will also create better individuals.

Instructions on emotional intelligence are relatively new techniques though. Thus, there are no perfect approaches in this field. Many resources are still lacking and even the systems of education to be used are yet to be perfected. Thus, many instructors find assistance from free sample dissertation on emotional intelligence from the internet.

The internet, as we know it, is a large market for both free and paid resources. It is only incidental that many researchers and authors choose to publish their dissertation on emotional intelligence online for free.

These mediums of instructions are very helpful in discovering new models and approaches in teaching emotional intelligence.

It is pretty obvious that many learning institutions fail to recognize emotional intelligence as a vital part in creating more well developed individuals. Many underlying methods of instruction on the current educational paradigm choose to ignore the worth EQ might contribute to the increase of intelligence in students.

In fact, if we are to observe closely, we will find that many standards result to the exact opposite that emotional intelligence promotes. Instead of increasing group coordination and social interaction, many school activities tend to focus on the individual competition. However, it must be understood that to furnish a complete individual, one must be given the contribution of parts from other components.

Sample analysis like these may be found in free dissertation on emotional intelligence. The point is, such resources will supply data and information on a school-based teaching of emotional intelligence.

It is not impossible to teach emotional skills in school. This is almost the same as teaching logic or mathematics, only it must be given specialized treatments. However, such attempts would prove to challenge the basic paradigms such as the examples provided above. Thus, the demand is put on the instructors who must be well equipped with techniques and skills to decide which will work for specific groups of students and which will prove detrimental. In the end, it is possible that by means of information gathered from dissertations on emotional intelligence, systems might change in the organic living organism from which we have learned the earliest life lessons.

Many people agree that it is ridiculous to teach people how they should react to specific conditions or simply, to control their emotions.

At first, this really sounds queer. After all, emotions are very subjective mediums of studies. Each one of us has his or her own fashion of dealing things out or reacting to specific stimulus. Even when the test is controlled. Emotions are as diverse as the personalities of human beings. This is because our characters are largely determined by the combinations of emotions that we are associated with.

During our prenatal development, our bodies have developed in specific ways as detailed in our genetical information. The color of our eyes, certain reactions to chemicals and the mixture of hormones we have in our bodies are all directed by the information encoded in our genes. Along with these comes our intellect. Thus our intelligence is stable and cannot be changed. We can only maximize or minimize our cognition and knowledge but our IQ level would remain constant. The condition with emotional intelligence is different though.

Emotions are developed only as we are exposed with specific stimuli triggered in our environment. These are not innate compositions of our bodies that would only sprout as needed. Our emotions are our reactions to things during our development. This is why babies during their birth have no concept of both positive and negative emotions. This is evident with children who are just starting to walk.

No one told them to walk yet something inside instructs them that it must be learned. And due to the absence of fear of falling, tripping or failing, they learn. If there were any inherent fears, it could have been impossible for him to even take his very first steps.

The point is emotions are part of our development. The present emotional intelligence that we have is the product of learning that we have encountered in the past. Incidentally, anyone can redirect their unwanted emotions into more useful ones in the same way as anyone can be taught of the proper ways to use their emotional intelligence.

Therefore, it is only crucial that emotional intelligence is taught, if possible at the very early age.

Teaching emotional intelligence would entail these five yardsticks as developed by psychologist and author, Daniel Goleman:

The first thing that must be taught is the ability to determine and identify one’s emotional states. Along with this must be the understanding of links between one’s actions, thoughts and emotions.

The second one is the development of proper management of emotions. This way, one will be able to control his or her emotions and to redirect undesirable emotions to more reasonable use.

Third is the training to take on the attitude of success and achievement while undergoing emotional states. Central to this is the positive state of thinking which in itself is very crucial in the development of one’s well being.

The ability to sense the line of one’s emotions must also be taught. In the process, the person will know how to be sensitive of another person’s emotions.

The fifth yardstick is a person’s capacity to enter and sustain a harmonious relationship with people he interacts with.

Once the person understands this, it would be easier to teach emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is a fairly new breakthrough. Many people think that an IQ test can determine how successful a person is going to be in life. However, psychologists disagree with this. An IQ test does not really determine the full abilities of any person. People have learned that a person’s ability to cope with emotions can be very important in determining his or her progress in life.

Emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to perceive and assess the emotions of other people and of his or her self. Emotional intelligence is very important since it often determines a person’s ability to make use of his or her resources properly.

People who find themselves lacking in emotional intelligence often turn to different things to help them cope with the problem. They read different materials and take different courses on how to raise their emotional intelligence. However, unlike book knowledge which can be assimilated in a person through a class or through reading, emotional intelligence needs to be acquired through life experience. Some people have emotional intelligence ingrained in them from their childhood, giving them with the ability to cope with people and life as a whole.

Here are some emotional intelligence techniques to help you accomplish what so many people are trying to do. By following these emotional intelligence techniques, you will be able to raise your awareness of the range of human emotion and its effects.

Emotional literacy – You need to learn how to give your emotions labels in order to understand them better. Many people who fail to understand their feelings tend to blame other people or their environment for their emotions. You need to understand your feelings instead of lashing out at your environment.

Turn emotion into energy – When you feel angry, try to use the energy that the feeling brings. Use that energy to do something productive. This emotional intelligence technique will not only help you cope with your emotions but it will also help you succeed in life. When you think that you are feeling angry remember that anger brings with it energy. It is okay to feel anger, but you need to use the energy it brings into something that will release that anger, not feed it.

Show respect for others – This emotional intelligence technique will help you improve your social interaction. Ina nutshell, this emotional intelligence technique is based on the famous proverb “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you”. Before you make an action, remember that you are not the only one with emotions. You need to consider the possibility that your actions may be disrespectful to other people’s emotions.

Choose people – You need to be careful about choosing who you hang around with. This emotional intelligence technique helps you make sure that you foster your self- esteem. By choosing the right people, you will be able to hang around with those who care about your emotions.

Take responsibility for your emotions – Stop thinking that other people make you happy or sad. You should realize the fact that you are in control of your emotions. You could feel “down in the dumps” but it is not the fault of others. You chose to feel that way. This emotional intelligence technique can go a long way in helping you live a full life.
