Enhancing Teenagers’ Self Esteem – Helping Our Future Society

We all believe that having a family that is spouse and kids is so wonderful. You start weaving big dreams for your child right from the day he/she is born. But just giving them food & clothing does not make you a good parent. You can spend money on your child endlessly but it is far more important to invest your time & emotions in them.

The children are like an encyclopedia of questions and you must face all their queries carefully else you might crop in some devilish idea in to their li’l but very mysterious minds.

One of the most important aspects of parenting is to build a self esteem in your child. This way, you child would be able to achieve success in regards of life, irrespective of the field they opt to go for. This task becomes utmost difficult when the child reaches the teenage as at this age the kids wish to make al their decisions by themselves but at the same time are most prone to make mistakes.

While the teenagers want the least of assistance, sometimes the parents tend to forget their child has grown up. Now they wish to learn from their mistakes & experiences, they want to face all their challenges themselves and while they have not become one, they believe themselves to be a ‘MAN’.

We must understand that every individual is not only the product of the family but also the entire society. The teenager absorbs things not only from his house but also the external society like the friends, teachers, other acquaintances, the movies, songs, stories, books, etc. They do lot of good & bad things all decided by themselves, many of which are absolutely in no knowledge of the parents.

In such incidents either the teachers call for the parents and warn them to check on the child’s behavior. Also in some worst scenarios, the parents might be called to pick their teenagers from the precinct.

While most often the people in such cases blame the parents saying they are solely responsible for what their child does, they are only partly right as they are the legal guardians of the kid and shall always be so. But why would the parents let their child go astray?

They make all attempts to get their child on the right track and rise up high as an individual. All parents love their children, but that is just not enough. Besides investing their money for the child they must invest some precious time and valuable moments with them. Her are some tips for the parents who are undergoing such problems with their kids:

1. They must involve in some activities with the child that would not only bring them closer but also help the child understand as to what is right and what is wrong. For instance, the mothers can inspire the child to practice the art harder like arts, music, dance, etc.

2. The fathers can accompany their kids in the sports and help them practice the games harder in order to become a good sportsperson.

3. The parents must be a good listener for their kids. Let your teenager talk as much as they can as there are several things the child goes through while they gain puberty. You should become their source of knowledge and answer all their queries responsibly. In case they are not satisfied with your answers or you are not sure of some facts, it is better to take the child to a psychologist or a doctor so that the child has the right information. Do not leave to the mercy of internet, movies, television and their friends.

4. Do not make all the decisions for your teenager. Treat them as adults and let them take their own decisions, but be there always with your wisdom & support. Let them learn from their experiences, whether success or failure.

5. Provide them with empowerment. In the corporate terms it refers to the phenomenon that the employees are assigned the task with the minimal supervision. In case they are able to yield the desired results, the seniors do not interrupt them but merely guide them towards improvisation. Empower your child today to prepare for the future events.

6. Do not compare your child with the kids next door. Might be that your child has some other expertise; help them navigate that hidden talent rather than demoralizing the child with the comparisons.

7. Try fostering in your own talent in the child like the engineers might help the child in sciences and the doctors might the children in biology. But do not force them. Do that only if the child has interest in the same. This might show the results in future when he / she is supposed to choose a career for themselves.

8. Do not force your decisions on the child for any thing. They have a freewill that you must respect. Just mention your word to the child and let them decide for themselves.

9. With the bigger decisions of the child’s life like their career, the sports they have to play professionally, etc., instead of forcing the child or negating their choices altogether let the entire family sit and discuss. These are matured decisions that would make or break the child’s success, so while they must be correct, they must also be acceptable to the individual themselves.

10. The parents must instill the idea to the child that where they can see a lot of luxuries, there is a lot of toil involved. Along with the great powers that they dream to have, they must be able to handle responsibilities as well. So whatever they take today would decide their destiny and they have to make these decisions not for the others but their own individuality.

We must understand that there is absolutely no magic solution that would seep in self esteem in the teenager. The parents, friends, teachers, guardians, all can just do their best and hope for the best in return!

Future Problem Solving

If we don’t start looking to the long term aspects of life on earth, we’re going to wait until it’s too late to save the planet! Yes, the planet! Eckhart Tolle had it right when he wrote his book the Power Of Now; however, that didn’t mean to live selfishly for us without any forethought to what we might be passing on to our children and grand children.

It’s been said that we will not change until the misery factor exceeds our fear factor.

If one takes a look around the planet surely the misery factor is growing exponentially- at least for most. A change in world view comes from a realistic world viewed. I can feel-sense the spiritual-psychological tremors. Can’t you? There is always a building of tension before what’s within, or underneath, comes to the surface.

Our current and old way of perceiving and viewing life is now generating more problems than solutions.

And it is those problems that always become the catalyst for triggering a shift in thinking or consciousness. We have many problems in the world today, but none like we’re going to be facing. Before we totally use up our non-renewable resources (can you say water and food?). A new level of learning and living must be adopted.

We are becoming more and more trapped by our thinking that’s not working!

These barriers that we’re building, these walls between cultures, and these hatreds or another’s religious beliefs cannot continue to increase or grow. The good news is that we currently have time and the ability (if we have the will) to open the doors of the prison cells we’ve built. After all, the prison cells lock from the inside!

The only question is how much longer will we have to go through life’s proverbial hell before we decide the current path of humanity is not going to provide a sustainable future for our children, if not for us.

Designing a Future Marked By High Self-esteem

Studies show that more than 85% of the world’s population suffers from some degree of diminished self-worth. For most people who lack a positive self-image, the future looks like a mere extension of their troubled past. Their expectation of what is to be is consistent with what has been — with a slight and predictable level of improvement. Because of their lacking self-esteem, most are resigned to a life that lacks the excitement and passion that characterizes the lives of those who feel worthy of tapping into the best things life has to offer. People who possess a positive self-image typically have an optimistic expectation of what is ahead of them and as a result, they realize this expectation as a self-fulfilling prophesy.

In contrast to the state of resignation that typifies those with diminished self-esteem, consider the possibility that the future lives as the realization of a promise — a promise you make to yourself and to the world. The future will result from your expectations and the quality of your future will be impacted by the commitment you have for it. It lives as a possibility. In other words, you get to invent it. In fact, you are the sole designer and architect of what is to be and the result will be entirely consistent with your expectation and your self-image.

In other words, our future will be directly related to what we expect for it to be. If we doubt our self-worth and expect our future lives to be worse than our current situation, we will sabotage ourselves into making it turn out in alignment with this self-fulfilling prophesy. If we limit our expectations and plan on more of the same results we have experienced to date, our apathy will generate a future consistent with this expectation. To the contrary, if we believe in ourselves and our expectation is that our future will be better than our present situation, self-motivation will lead to actions that will bring about the positive outcome we envision.

If we feel good about ourselves and expect to live happy, fulfilled, and successful lives, we will take the actions consistent with realizing that expectation. We will therefore generate the opportunities that will result in rich relationships, abundance, and joy being attracted to our lives – because we believe we deserve it and act on this belief.

We get what we expect and attract prosperity or lack, joy or sorrow, rewarding relationships or angry, frustrating ones all as a result of whether or not we feel worthy. Just as we can doubt our abilities to succeed and our worthiness of attracting rewarding friends and intimate relationships, we can also instead choose to take full responsibility for expecting all aspects of our lives to be the way we want them to turn out. When we come from this positive mindset and commit to manifesting our dream lives, we put forth an energy that attracts all the things we desire to us.

Realize that you have consciously or unconsciously attracted everything that shows up in your life to you. If where you are in life, the relationships you have attracted to you, your physical, financial, emotional and spiritual states are not what you desire, decide now to alter your course. Decide that you deserve better. Get in touch with the erroneous decisions you made at an early age that impacted your self-esteem. Reframe how you see yourself and resolve to act from a declaration of who you are (just because you say so) instead of the unlovable, somehow defective or unworthy image you made up or bought into long ago.

Change your expectations. Design a life plan consistent with your new expectations. Make requests of those who can support your efforts in some way. The future exists for each of us as a possibility. When we do the necessary work to complete our troubled past and put the self-interpretations that do not support us behind, we can courageously decide to design our future lives deliberately to be in alignment with joy, abundance, fun, fulfillment, and self-love. When we train ourselves to first expect positive results and then to act in accordance with what we expect, we set the stage for a bright and promising tomorrow. We have the personal power to create our future on purpose. The future can unfold out of our declaration of how we see ourselves and what we expect it to be like. To the extent that we take responsibility to expect great things in our lives, ensure we give off positive, attractive, loving energy and then get into action to bring about our expectations, we will be the force behind the realization of a rewarding happy future characterized by soaring self-esteem.

So, my challenge for you today is to write out a clear and specific vision of exactly what your life will be like in every area including your relationships, health, wealth and finances, occupation, recreation and social life, and personal and spiritual development. Commit to resolving any past issues that continue to erode how you feel about yourself. Developing Future Leaders- It’s Imperative Not to Wait!

Why is it important to develop future leaders within your company?  Continuity of company culture, labor shortages, and an unexpected death of a senior manager are just a few important reasons.

In his book, Built to Last, Jim Collins describes the very successful succession planning process that GE’s CEO, Reginald Jones, took to find a new CEO.  The process involved 96 candidates over seven years before Jones narrowed the candidates down to a single successor: Jack Welsh.

GE’s commitment to the succession process not only identified Jack Welsh, but all of his predecessors as well.  These leaders were visionaries and change agents – an important, ongoing part of GE’s culture.

While you may not currently be in need of a successor, have you at least identified some potential candidates?  Who within your organization has the potential to succeed you?  And how long will it take before they are prepared to take your seat?

Challenges for Mid-Market Companies

Unlike GE, mid-market companies generally don’t have 96 candidates in the succession planning process queue, and a seven year process may be overkill.  At the same time, many mid-market companies often wait until it is too late to successfully identify and develop their next CEO.  Potential candidates may leave their current company to grow with another company before they are formally identified for succession opportunities.  The very worst scenario involves a candidate leaving for a competitor who promises them increased responsibilities and leadership development opportunities that their current company failed to provide.

Another challenge for mid-market companies is their lack of a structured management training program for current and future leaders as found in many Fortune 500 companies.

Redefining Succession Planning for Mid-Market Companies

The succession planning process should start with you, your organization’s leader, and your talent management or human resources department.  Work with this department to create a list of critical success factors and specific job requirements.  Identify all must-have experience and skill sets as well as the nice-to-haves.  If you don’t have people internally with these skills set, bring in a consultant to assist in the succession planning process.

Once the job profile is complete, compare it to your candidates.  Identify the top candidates and determine what leadership development skills they will require.  Some of your leadership development process can be addressed through internal resources, while some may require external resources.

When your leadership development plan is finished, you should not wait to execute your plan as waiting can greatly impact your company’s future! The story below tells why it is imperative that you not wait to begin developing your future leader.

Future Of Six Sigma – Different Viewpoints

Since its introduction in the 1990′s, 6-Sigma has become the buzzword in both the manufacturing and service industries. The various methodologies used in 6-Sigma are based on a disciplined and data driven approach that help in eliminating defects and achieving near perfection by restricting the number of possible defects to less than 3.4 defects per million. The methodologies are effective in managing business processes of both the manufacturing and service industries. In manufacturing industries, the concepts and methodologies are used for reducing the number of defects whereas in service industries, they are used mainly for reducing transactional errors.

Although many companies have been successful in reducing the number of defects through Six Sigma projects, the arguments raised against the efficacy of 6-Sigma in all aspects of business processes still do not seem to die down. Some management experts think that Six Sigma is inherently flawed, as it does not take into account the flaws that might be present in the system itself. They are of the opinion that the analytical and statistical tools used in 6-Sigma only expose flaws in the execution and do not account for a process that itself is riddled with defects.

Supporters of Six Sigma offer a different viewpoint. According to them, quality management tools such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and 6-Sigma are conceptually quite similar except for their labels. Business organizations may use any of these for improving overall quality. However, they often give preference to 6-Sigma as they believe that Six Sigma is more than just a process improvement program and is based on concepts that focus on continuous quality improvements. They have the opinion that 6-Sigma concepts combine statistical measurement tools with contemporary management techniques for achieving extraordinary results.

The Limited Use Of Six Sigma

6-Sigma gained prominence as an effective quality improvement technique after it was successfully implemented in Motorola. Since then, many large organizations have implemented 6-Sigma programs and improved the quality of manufactured goods or services rendered. However, the full potential of 6-Sigma has not been realized so far because many competent small to medium level enterprises have still not implemented Six Sigma programs. These enterprises have all the resources to implement such programs, but are often wary of the final certification, as they believe that it is meant only for large organizations. These companies often do not realize that 6-Sigma delivers the same benefits to both large as well as small business enterprises. The only difference may be in the volume of goods manufactured or services rendered.

The Future Of Six Sigma

6-Sigma may appear similar to other quality management tools such as TQM or Kaizen Events, but in reality, it is quite different. Other quality management programs often reach a stage after which no further quality improvements can be made. 6-Sigma, on the other hand, is different as it focuses on taking quality improvement processes to the next level. This means that 6-Sigma has the potential to outlast other quality management programs in the future.

The scope of 6-Sigma is also much broader than other quality management programs as it can be applied to every business process of an organization. The future is bright for 6-Sigma programs with the growing awareness in small and medium enterprises about the potential benefits that can be derived from implementing such programs.
