GOAL SETTING IN ITS BEST.

A gold mine is an avenue of gold, where gold is being search and taken from. When you attach your mind to your goal you will arrive at your expected end. The reason that many have cost their harvest is because they ignore their goal. When you followed your goal you soon be in your harvest. Goal is an important tool in the school of success. When you arranged your focus in other to follow it to your expectation, you create an instrument of achievement. Set up your goals and see to their success one after the other. Remember, success is not a destination but a journey. So HAROLD SCHULLER prove correct when he says’” A goal mind is a gold mine”. Goal is an important asset in the school of success, is that tool of improvement that work you out for greatness in life. Most despised goal setting and as a result failed to achieve an inch. Goal setting make you see what you need to do, what is undone and how to do it.

Goal Setting is an extremely powerful technique for accomplishment, but for Goal Setting to really be effective requires more than just writing down what we want to achieve. This article will present important steps that will help to define and achieve goals with more success. Once we have a well-formed Goal Statement we need some direction to follow to achieve this Goal. The creation of Goal Steps gives us a list of the important things that need to be done to achieve the Goal, an action plan, and also allows us to track our progress towards the goal. Motivation and commitment are what make us strive to achievement. They give us the push, desire, and resolve to complete all of the other steps in the Goal process. This motivation can be obtained by developing a statement that creates a high level of emotion and energy that guarantees achievement. Commitment is what sets us on direct course to reach our goals and creates costly negative consequences for failure.

“Soft” goals are the first and worst mistake of goal setting. “Soft” is often used as opposed to hard, cold, measurable facts. Often a coaching client may feel that what he is setting to achieve can not be expressed in numbers. It can not be tied up to specific bounding time-frames. It can not be defined in a clear understood-by-all terms. Therefore, he may try and define a “soft” goal.

The problem is that there really isn’t such a thing as a soft-goal. What people call a soft-goal is usually an excuse to them not knowing what their results really are, or not knowing how to quantify the results, or not willing to really commit to get those results. And if you don’t really know what you set out to achieve, chances are that you will not achieve it. This is why “Soft” goals are next to useless!

If your client defined a “Soft” goal, he indicated a wish for this result, but he didn’t really set a goal. In all probability, your client is not deliberately trying to avoid accountability. He probably doesn’t know how to do it correctly. Surprisingly, executive coaching clients are often just as bad at setting goals as any other coaching clients. The good part is that they can be taught how to do it, and so improve their results.

When your client comes up with a goal, spend some time with her on refining her goal to fit the following:

· The goal should be defined as an output, a result, and not as a process or an action.

· The goal should be measurable. Try not to give way on this, but if there is no way to do it, at least assure that the goal may be assessed in a consistent manner, and that the rules for making this assessment are defined clearly.

· The goal should be time bound. You client needs to commit to a specific date.

If the result your client came with can not be measured, try to identify an alternative result that is directly linked to the first, and will give the same indication in a measurable way. Look for measurable characteristics or attributes of the original results. Those are often good candidates to replace it.

With a new year is approaching, we naturally look backward at what we have accomplished and forward to what we hope to accomplish. This is the perfect time to set goals.

If you want to set goals that truly work and empower you to get results, here is a system that really works. Use it and you will achieve great things that will surprise and amaze you.

If goal setting has not worked for you in the past, meaning you fell short, it’s probably because you set your goals in general terms. General goals move you in a general direction. It rarely produces big specific achievements. You need to make your goals specific. This will help you achieve what you want more quickly. Clarity is power. And things become much clearer when you write them down. A Harvard study has shown that graduates who have written specific goals are significantly more successful than graduates who do not.

I’ve been setting goals since I was 17 years old. At first, they were general goals and I didn’t write them down. But I did have a vital ingredient for success. I wanted to achieve them passionately.

You see, I did not have a warm supportive family when I was growing up, although my mother did instill in me a high value for education. She divorced when I was two years old and married my stepfather. He was an alcoholic and beat her. He was a strong man with forearms as big as hams. When I was a teenager and tried to protect my mother, he ground my face in the dirt. So you see I had high motivation to leave home as soon as I could. We also were very poor because of the Great Depression. So I had high motivation to make money.

Later I started writing down my goals and making them specific. It enabled me to get a job with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Before then all I did was common labor. I loaded a truck by hand with 4 tons of cement blocks. Then I drove to a job site and unloaded it. I did this four times a day, which means I handled 16 tons, just like the coal miner song. I had absolutely no white collar experience. I wanted the life insurance job so bad I could taste it. My passion must have impressed the head of the agency and he hired me.

I was the youngest salesman they had ever hired up to that time. Barely 21 years old, I outsold every one of my 16 colleagues in my agency. I made so much money I forgot to deposit my checks until I was reminded to do so by a call from a harried Metropolitan clerk who was trying to balance her books.

I wanted still more and I got a Masters degree from the University of Michigan, graduating with honors and Phi Beta Kappa, the honor society which fosters and recognizes academic excellence.

No one in my family — mother, father, uncles and aunts — ever graduated from high school.

The goal setting process I now use is simple, easy and fun; yet produces profound results. I’ve been teaching it for over nine years and I see my clients get great results.

I think most people set their goals in general terms, like I used to do, because they’re afraid to make their goals detailed and to set deadlines. They fear not reaching their goals and feeling badly. They avoid painful feelings like disappointment, frustration, feeling insignificant and being full of self-doubt.

When I am making goals, I trigger myself into the mood of a child wishing on a star, innocently full of faith and belief. I think about all the things that I really, really want. I put aside my critical self and don’t worry a bit about how I’m going to do it. Because if I did, it would feel impossible and I would shut down.

I think about what I really, really want. I see it, feel it, hear it. I might even smell and taste it. Just like I wanted that job with the insurance company so I could get out of the house, be my own person, find a good woman to love. I’ve learned that when your desires are strong enough, your unconscious mind will find ways to make it happen. Even the universe will help you out in unexpected ways.

To make your desires strong, you need to have strong reasons why you want to achieve these things. First think of your reasons, don’t worry how you accomplish these things. These answers will come to you. You just have to have big strong reasons why achieving your goals is a must.

Best wishes for a rich and rewarding business and life,
~Stan

Goal setting- Brings out the best in you

Goal setting involves deciding what you want to do in life. You set time bound objectives for yourself. Most common goals are career and financial ones.

These goals can be more specific and hence are easier to define. They can be for the next month, next six months, next year or for life. When you are doing this make sure they are the things that you want in life and not somebody else’s dreams.

Areas which may need goal setting

If you find there is an area in your life that you aren’t happy about you must start the goal setting process. If you don’t like your appearance, there can be something you do about it.

A lot of people have goals about their health. Most concentrate on careers and personal development. Goal setting can also include possessions that you want to have before you are certain years of age. It can include cars, houses, land, etc.

What to do with difficult long term goals?

When goals are very difficult to achieve and are spread over a few years, it is easy to lose track of it after sometime. So it is important to have short term goals within the long terms ones.

You can put it in writing and see your self confidence build every time you achieve something. All the goals should have a deadline this will make you work harder and stay focused. After brainstorming and deciding what goals you want to include, prioritize them. Focusing on a lot of goals at once will dilute your energy.

How does goal setting help?

Regularly checking your goals will help you concentrate on doing work that is relevant and not waste time on things that are not. Have a goal which is achievable but make don’t lower the bar too much.

Goals should be high enough to demand a good amount of work from you but low enough so that they don’t overwhelm you. Definite goals will keep you focused and energize you so that you will enjoy what you do as you know why you are doing it.

Most people set far more goals than they actually get. This can be discouraging and cause you to give up on goal setting. However if you learn to set your goals correctly then you will actually get them. Here’s a simple five point system to help you do exactly that.

#1. Know The Benefit That You Are Wanting To Achieve

The most common mistake that people make in goal setting is that they don’t determine the benefit that they really want from the goal. Let’s say for example you set a goal to earn $200,000 per year. That doesn’t really mean anything to the subconscious mind. You have to tell the subconscious what that $200,000 per year is going to do for you. That is your real goal.

How do your want that money to improve your life? What would that new lifestyle be like on a day to day basis?

#2. Know Exactly What Will Give You That Benefit

Once you have worked out what you really want as a benefit then make that your goal and describe it as specifically as you can. If you have a goal in the form of a very specific benefit or set of benefits then your subconscious mind will absorb it and start working on it for you.

Notice that this may not be the actual goal that you used to start the process. In our example above we used a goal of earning $200,000 per year as a starting point for the goal setting process. Once you rephrase original goal as the specific lifestyle that you hope the money will provide you and used that lifestyle as the new goal then your subconscious mind will work to achieve that lifestyle, whether it can be funded with $200,000 a year or whether it needs $300,000 per year.

#3. Breakdown Your Goal Into Bite Size Chunks

It is important that you can fully believe, at the emotional level, that you can achieve that goal. If it is too big to totally believe in then your subconscious will reject it as being too far out of the normal for you.

The way around this is to break it down into a series of smaller goals that are believable.

#4. Take Goal Directed Action Everyday

Most of us have the habit of not always working no holds barred towards the goals we set. This gives the subconscious the message that we are not serious about that goal and it will take it off the list. The way to ensure that your subconscious in fully aware that you really want this goal is to take goal directed action each and every day without fail.

#5. Monitor your Results and Course Correct Where Needed

Not all your goal directed actions are going to produce the results that you want. It is important to monitor your results and decide which actions are taking you toward your goals and which are not. Then modify your actions as required to make them more effective.

Concluding Remarks

This five point system works really well as long as you follow it. Make a decision to put this system into action today on your current goals and watch the improvement that follows.

Goal setting is equal parts art and science. Many people create goals that simply don’t work. If you’re in business, you don’t have the luxury of creating goals that don’t work. You need to work effectively and you need goals you help you do it.

Here is a great way to create good goals that work… that keep you on track. They’re called SMART goals and the acronym SMART will help you to remember the things that each goal needs to be:

* Specific: Your goal needs to be stated in a way that is clearly defined. Saying, I should work more, is not a goal that will be kept. However, saying, I am going to work a total of 8 hours each day, is a goal that is much clearer and specific.

* Measurable: This is closely related to the above attribute except that it also includes a way to make sure you are on track. A goal setting that says, I want to make more money, isn’t measurable. However, a goal that says, I want to earn $6000/month, is a far more measurable goal. It’s easy to see, at the end of the month, whether or not you achieved it.

* Actionable: This means that your goal should be something that you need to do yourself in order to accomplish it. If you want to increase your income this year, it’s not realistic to say, I’m going to win the lottery this year, because you have no control over whether you will win the lottery or not. However you might say, I’m going to increase my sales efforts by cold calling 10 people each day, which is something you can take action on yourself.

* Realistic: Goals that are actually achievable are much better and far more motivating. You’ll feel better about yourself when you do hit goals than if constantly shoot for them and fall short. Realistic goals should not be so easy that you hit them every single time but should not be so hard that you never reach them at all.

* Time-oriented: Similar to the measurable attribute, your goal should have a timeframe for you to accomplish it in. Deadlines help people achieve their goals. If you anchor your goal to a time, you’ll be able to watch your progress.

You can remember this with the acronym, SMART, so that when you are goal setting, you can create better goals for yourself. This is a popular goal-setting acronym in business, although occasionally the words are changed slightly to reflect the needs of the business.

The ability to set and achieve goals is the master skill of life. Goals are your road-map to success and happiness. Without them, how can you ever expect to arrive at the destination you desire? Increase your power by setting goals and following the following 5 principles.

The first is that each goal must be important to you. Is it something you truly desire or someone else?s expectations for you? The desire must be burning within you, not someone else. Be absolutely honest with yourself in setting goals and decide what you want for your life in six key life areas: Spiritual, Mental, Relational, Physical, Financial, and Career.

The second principle is that goals should cause you to stretch outside your comfort zone. I have discovered four zones in which we live. When our power is at our lowest, we?re living in the ?drone zone? or the no-growth zone where instead of experiencing burn out, we rust out from inactivity. The next zone is comfort, where most live each day, instead of the necessary one day of rest. Living in the challenge zone keeps you on the edge, constantly striving for meaningful goals. In order to continuously increase your power, I suggest living here on a daily basis. Make sure you also practice meditation, eat properly and exercise, helping you live serenely while in the challenge zone. If you find yourself in the final panic zone, then you?ve reached too high and will become stressed due the unattainable nature of your goals.

This brings us to principle number three. Your goals should be achievable in your own mind. I?m guilty in the past of making mine so heavenly that they didn?t do me any earthly good. On the other end, some are so simple they really won?t allow you to stretch into the challenge zone. In order to stay focused and inspired, there should be a sixty to eighty percent probability of successfully accomplishing your goal. Earning one million dollars or losing two pounds in the next sixty days are prime examples of the two extremes.

Is there a way to measure your goal? Achievement of your goal being verifiable is the basis of principle four. There should be some tangible way of measuring your goal. ?I will lose eight pounds and two inches off my wait in 3 months? is measurable. ?I will lose weight? is not. ?I will pay off my VISA card and put $600.00 into my savings account within 60 days? is measurable. ?I will make more money? is not. You get the idea. Measurable results in reasonable time will establish building blocks for each goal-building session.

Principle five is to make your goal enjoyable. Keep the fun meter in the red. The goal-setting process, the journey towards the goal, and the final achievement of the goal should be a lot of fun. Celebrate every accomplishment, big or small. Other suggestions to take into consideration are to write your goals at the beginning of each month and keep a copy with you at all times. Read the list when you wake up, throughout the day, and before bed. I also suggest you give one to a friend, mentor or coach that can help keep you accountable.

Increase your power today and begin a goal-setting session. The person you become along the way will be different than the person you are today. The last thing I?ll say about goal-setting may have a profound impact on your life: Individuals without goals will be condemned forever to work for those that do.

When asked to write down their goals in life, many people hesitate because they think their goals are trivial compared to the Bill Gates and Anthony Robbins of this world. Nothing could be further from the truth if their goals are based on one thing.
And what is that? Well, simply put, every successful person begins with the “End in Mind” no matter what that end might be. And the part that makes it worthy is it is THEIR end! This makes it their personal mission and truly worthy no matter how
trivial it may sound. This is why they call it PERSONAL goal setting.

Let me further explain for those that are not quite clear when I say the “end.” In his book “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People,” Stephen R. Covey explains this “end in mind” concept by having you picture yourself at your own funeral.

If fact, why don’t you do this quick but powerful exercise now. Visualize yourself laying in a casket with friends and family gathered to say their last goodbyes. Everyone is dressed in dark colored clothing, mourning your death, as they
stroll past your casket viewing your body for the last time. Now, everyone takes their seats and here comes the eulogy.

Listen to what the speaker is saying about the type of person you were, all the contributions you made, the impact you left on people’s lives, etc. Did he/she not mention something you wish to be mentioned? What was that specific thing or things?

Well, luckily with the power of imagination, you can “come back to life” and are given a second chance to make all those things a reality. This is the best explanation of beginning with the “end in mind” that I have seen and I hope it clarifies this powerful concept.

This concept is very effective because it gives us a powerful purpose for doing things and it allows us to work backwards and figure out what we need to do to get “there.” Now, as I implied earlier, it does not matter if your goal is to revolutionize the way we do business or if it is to be the best parent to your kid(s). As long as you know what YOUR optimal life looks like, you will have no problems coming up with worthy goals.

If you have no idea how to get “there,” unless your optimal life is truly unique, there are lots of resources that will show you how to get to where you want to go. So your first goal could be to go to Amazon.com and find the top selling book in your area of interest. Then go to your local library and borrow it (or pick up a copy for yourself if you like to mark notes in your books).

You will find things that the author did that helped him/her realize what you are after. With that information at your fingertips, you can create many worthy goals, all moving you in the direction you want to go. You do not (and in many cases should not) have to reinvent the wheel. Copying will get you there faster. So in this case, copying is the smartest thing you can do.

This is a simple but powerful concept for brewing up meaningful and personal goals. These goals express what matters most to YOU and are, therefore, just as worthy as a world changing goal!

Use your powerful gift of imagination and begin with the “end in mind.” You will stir up some powerful emotions if done with focus and your true mission in life will be revealed. With this personal mission, you will have no problems coming up with meaningful goals.

Time waits for no man and at every second interval important life changing decisions have to be made. In the business world it’s worse because time wasted is money lost. But business will not always be about time management, goal must also be set and achieved in the given periods of time. Luckily enough the importance of goal setting & time management for affiliates has been noted and progress is dependent on proper implementation.

Setting goals is one of the first steps towards success in whatever you do. In most cases goals are set with immediate and long term needs in mind. Sitting down and writing down your goals in order of importance will definitely give you a confidence boost as well as motivating you to steer towards your wants and needs. And it’s just not as simple as setting goals. Pin your list to your walls t make sure that you’re constantly reminded of what you must achieve.

Goals should also be as realistic as possible. Building castles in the air is typical of most people, they try to achieve their goals in record times and with very high expectations. Instead, set goals that you know you can achieve. To help you do this you can set your goals with existing circumstances in mind because they are the ones that determine if you’re going to be successful enough.

The moment goals are set only one thing remains, working towards them. This is where time management becomes very crucial. Managing time properly means you do what you’re supposed to do in the time you’ve allocated for that. Planning out your day and having a diary of commitments ensures that time is managed efficiently. Without planning you might end up not doing important things because other ones came up.

Focus and concentration are important as well. Remaining dedicated to listed needs and wants puts you in the frame of mind of success. Focus is prompted by initial successes and ticking off already achieved goals. Other things that maintain focus are meditation and visualizing your success in great detail. Do what you’re supposed to do when you’re supposed to do them.

Last of all you should strive for perfection. Setting goals and managing time are both about doing the work required of you well. When you rush through work you are forced to return to the drawing board and redo the work. The obvious result is that goals remain unattained and time is lost. Do your work properly and that way you can move on to the next step on your list of goals and targets.

If you’ve ever tried to set a goal or just simply attempted to meet a deadline and didn’t make it, it may be because you haven’t improved your skills at goal setting yet. Use these tips to learn how:

Know the results you want
You cannot set your first goal unless you know what you want. Make a list of what you want to accomplish and write them down. Although a trusty notepad will usually suffice, you might also use an organizer, computer software or an online website account that lets you manage your time and organize a list of tasks.

Make sure the goals are precise. Don’t just say, ‘I want to sell to more customers.’ Instead, say, ‘I will call a minimum of 10 potential customers a day’.

Review this list and then identify which goals are short-term, which are long-term and continuous. Short-term goals are goals you set with the intention of completing them soon, either out of necessity or desire. Long-term goals are goals that you want to achieve in the near future while continuous goals are those that you sustain over time and thus have no deadline for.

Set your priorities
Separate the goals depending on their importance. Some goals just naturally have to be completed first, such as those that have deadlines while others can be completed in the future. There are also goals that can be set above others because of the types of knowledge and skills you already have.

By prioritizing your goals, you are more likely to complete many of them and avoid getting overwhelmed.

Consider forces or factors that are beyond your control
Certain things will affect how successful you will be at goal setting. These factors include: market behavior, customer demands, injury, bad weather, even wrong timing. Any of these factors will affect the outcome of your performance. There’s also a good chance you may not get the results you want.

To avoid this, set goals according to your performance instead of outcomes. This allows you to make goals that are realistic and achievable with an outcome that is much more satisfactory.

Remember to always set your goals in a positive way
Do not begin a goal with a negative, such as ‘I will NOT waste time’. Instead, say something like ‘I will manage my time by prioritizing and scheduling.’ That way, you give yourself a clearer vision about what you want to do and the steps you want to take to get there.
