Build Your Self Esteem, Start Today

Are you feeling tired every day?  Are you dreading waking up?  Do you feel like no one appreciates you?  You are not alone.  You are one of millions of people that are suffering of Low Self Esteem.  Wouldn’t be great to wake up in the morning and look forward to the day knowing it is going to be a great day no matter if you are going to work, out with your family or your friends!  I am here to tell you that you can but you need to follow the step of overcoming low self esteem.

First, let’s discuss what are the symptoms of low self esteem. We already mentioned dreading waking up in the morning, being appreciated and feeling tired every day.  When you get to work, are you afraid you will get fired?  Do you feel not worthy of making friends?  Is it difficult for you to make friend?  Do you know you could achieve more but lack the confidence to go for it?  Do you feel like you are victims of whatever is happening to you?  Do you feel trapped like you are tied up to a train track and you can see the train coming? These are some of many signs that would indicate that you are suffering of low self esteem.

I interviewed this young man about a year ago.  Let’s call him Mr. X.  He told me his story about how he overcame low self esteem.  His story was remarkable.  When he was young, he was shy.  He would blush and turn bright red just to the idea of meeting people.  His parents moved a lot so that met adjusting to new environment and created added pressure to fit in to his problems.  When he became of college age, he was terrified of speaking in front people.  He was so afraid of what people would think or say about him.  He was so frazzled that he would second guess himself even on things that he had known to be his entire life.  His self esteem was so low that he would never go out with friends.  Even going shopping, which met talking with people, was a terrifying idea for him.  He would over analyze everything and make himself miserable.

Once you realize why you do what you do and discover techniques or ways to overcome you low self esteem.  You will start seeing challenges as an opportunity to grow and not feel like the world is falling on you.  You will enjoy going out and meeting new people.  The day to day task won’t feel like a constant fight but just part of your life. Imagine how you would feel if you achieved your goal, what that would do for your self esteem!

Start Overcoming Low Self Esteem Today

When your confidence in your own abilities is at an all time low, the task of self esteem building can be difficult one. However, it’s important to recognize that self esteem levels can be altered with a little bit of thought and effort. You don’t have to go through life feeling insignificant and worthless; here are some tips to help you start overcoming low self esteem today:

It’s not your fault

The task of self esteem building can begin in earnest when you realize that your self esteem issues are not your fault. No one wakes up one morning and decides to saddle themselves with self esteem so low that even everyday tasks are a challenge. Your self esteem may have been affected by childhood experiences, by sudden illness or unemployment, or by being involved in an abusive relationship. Whatever your story, begin your quest towards overcoming low self esteem by recognizing that it’s not your fault.

You don’t need to be perfect

It’s fairly common for people who have issues with low self esteem to be very hard on themselves. Where someone with a healthy level of self esteem may score 45/50 in a test and think that they’ve done pretty well, someone with low self esteem might achieve the same score and spend the rest of the day feeling bad because they made 5 errors. Self esteem building requires you to realize that you don’t have to be perfect all the time. Aim for accomplishments rather than perfection and you’ll find that this simple shift in your way of thinking will make a big difference to how you feel.

Do something for someone else

The aim of overcoming low self esteem is for you to feel valued and worthwhile and few things can accomplish this so quickly as doing something to help someone else. This could be as simple as offering to pay for your friend’s coffee at the checkout. It could mean offering to help organize a bake sale to raise money for a local charity or spending time chatting with a friend who’s having problems. Whichever way you decide to offer your services, feeling like other people value and appreciate you does wonders for how you feel about yourself.

Self esteem building will happen more quickly if you learn to listen to other people’s compliments. When you do try to help others and you find people thanking you and saying things like, “We couldn’t have done it without you” – listen to them and take it in. Self esteem building requires you to call a halt to your habit of filtering out the positive comments and compliments! Accept that other people appreciate you and let it help you to appreciate yourself a little bit more.

My goal is to provide people with the tools to help them to build their self confidence and self esteem. Please visit my website to read more quality articles and also to see a FREE video on how to destroy negative thinking patterns.

Stress Management : Learning How to Relax – Five Key Life Changes to Make Today

Stress Management – Technique1:    Think positively – Having a positive attitude is key to stress management as well as to happiness in life.  To learn to be more positive and optimistic:
Try to minimize criticism and complaints; instead seek opportunities to praise others.
? Be as non-judgemental as possible and avoid drama by refusing to jump to conclusions or “read-in” to what other people are thinking.
? Avoid the need to constantly defend your position which disrupts inner harmony.  Instead, seek to surround yourself with positive, supportive people.
? Notice the way each statement makes you FEEL as you say it and use the ones that elicit the most positive emotional response frequently.
Stress Management Technique 2:     Be Mindful – Mindfulness is a key component in stress management.  Being mindful means living fully in the present moment without focusing on regrets from the past or worries about the future.  To help you be more mindful:
• Try changing your focus to relaxing and “being” sometimes vs. constant action or “doing”.
• Seek times of solitude which will promote inner peace and relaxation as well as creativity.
• Try a walking meditation.  Get out in nature and as you walk really notice all of the sights, sounds and scents around you which will help keep your thoughts in the present moment.  In addition, noticing nature’s beauty and abundance can help to minimize any problems you may be encountering and make them seem smaller and more manageable.
Stress Management Technique 3:     Self-Nurture – Self-Nurturing is learning to love and take better care of yourself.  Continually putting yourself at the bottom of your list of priorities will result in stress, burnout, exhaustion and resentment.  We are unable to be at our best for others, unless we take time for ourselves to rest, relax and renew.  Self-nurturing is not selfish, it is sensible.  To incorporate more self-nurturing into your life try the following:
? Pamper yourself with small indulgences that you enjoy personally (simple pleasures) throughout the day.
? Follow your bliss by learning to use your natural talents and gifts, by choosing hobbies you enjoy and following your dreams.
? Learn to pace yourself, listen to your body and realize that saying no at times is essential.

Stress Management Technique 4: Declutter – Having excess clutter in your home, office and/or vehicle can significantly add to your stress level.  Clutter can rob you of time looking for items that could be used for more pleasant activities.
Stress Management Technique 5: Practice Relaxation Techniques – In addition to helping you feel more calm and relaxed, learning relaxation techniques also has many health benefits including lowering blood pressure, regulating digestion, helping you to get a better night’s sleep and boosting the immune system.  These techniques are fun and easy to learn and regular practice will teach your body to relax faster and easier.
• Deep Breathing – When stressed we tend to breathe with shallow, rapid breaths which trigger the body’s stress response.  Taking just a few full, deep breaths can activate the body’s relaxation response.  Be sure as you practice deep breathing to breathe slowly and deeply expanding your belly first and then your chest.
• Meditation – Learning meditation is intimidating to many people because they think it is difficult and time-consuming.  This does not have to be the case.  Doing a basic meditation for 10-15 minutes each day is highly beneficial (before getting out of bed in the morning is best).  Simply sit or lie down and get very comfortable, begin to focus on your breathing and clear your mind.  When thoughts come into your mind, briefly acknowledge the thought and then let it go.  It’s that simple!  If you’d like to add a mantra (word or statement) to your meditation to help you stay focused, try “I am” as you breathe in and “calm” or “relaxed” as you exhale.
• Visualization – Visualization and Guided Imagery are simple, gentle, yet powerful techniques in which you focus and direct your imagination for a desired result.  Guided Imagery is actually much more than visualization alone because it seeks to engage all of your senses and evoke feelings.  Different types of imagery can be used for relaxation or as a complementary therapy for healing from injury or illness.  Many studies have shown the effectiveness of Guided Imagery and it is now being used in many hospitals throughout the United States.
Learning how to relax is essential to living a happier, healthier life and should be an integral part of your wellness program.  There are many other relaxing therapies available to choose from including such things as massage therapy, aromatherapy, music therapy and journaling to name a few.  Both stress and relaxation are very personal to the individual.  What one person finds stressful isn’t necessarily stressful to another and in the same way what one person finds relaxing isn’t necessarily relaxing to another.  Therefore, it is best to sample the different therapies, techniques and treatments available to find the balance that works best for you.  For more information on any of the topics discussed in this article visit www.tranquilitybaywellness.com.

On Goal Setting: Paving the Path for Tomorrow, Today

There is a saying that goes something like this, “Before you know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been.” Very wise words, and very truthful, but I’d like to add to that statement, “Before you know where you’re going, you better plan ahead.” The last time I took a vacation, I planned out the path, and I made alternate routes incase the main route was blocked. Goal setting is nothing different from planning a vacation, or planning anything really. It takes time, focus, vision, execution, and S.M.A.R.T.S.

Time is money, this is a true statement most if not all business owners and managers will agree upon. So if this is true, why waste it to being a quarter into a new fiscal year and still not having a plan put in place. Let my dispel some a myth, an operating budget is NOT a plan, nor are they goals. To properly formulate an operating budget you need to first set the goals you wan to attain. How can you properly allocate capital if you have direction? When you plan for a vacation you save and allot the money to be sure you have everything covered. Goal planning should begin in July/August, or 4-5 months prior to the beginning of a new fiscal year. This will reserve time for brainstorming, formulating, Board approval (if necessary), and implementation through the budget.

For goal setting to be effective you need to devote energy and focus on the task. Haphazard goal setting will lead to haphazard results. Do whatever it takes to gain focus. Many entrepreneurs fail to understand the concept of retreat. Even if you are a one-man shop, you need time away to gather your thoughts, recoup your body, and open the doors of your mind. That is where innovation and imagination are given free reign is in retreat. Try this exercise, get away for 5 days, and leave behind the work phone, laptop, and anything else tying you to your company. Find someplace that relaxes you. Take the first day to detoxify your mind, and then take the next 3 days to become a free thinker. Grab a pen and paper and write down every idea that comes into your mind. No matter how ridiculous. Be sure this is done on un-lined paper no rules, no guidelines, and no restrictions. On the last day, prepare yourself to come back fresh, meditate. When you get back to your company take a look at the paper and begin to eliminate the ideas, until you reach those that are S.M.A.R.T.S (later in the article).

Vision is important in goal setting. For without vision we’re lost. You have to be looking out into the horizon, beyond the sight of employees and competitors. To find your goals you have to look forward and not behind.

Finally we reach execution. Execution is a fairly simple process; many people make it too hard. With each goal there should be a set of action plans. These are simply steps needed to attain the goal. For example if your goal is to increase sales by 3% in a certain market, then the action steps would be to increase the effectiveness of sales reps in that area through training. Step two could be to increase marketing by adding another advertising channel, and attaining better brand recognition and exposure. Executions then leads to you walk out the steps necessary to attain the goal(s) you have set.

A brief word on S.M.A.R.T.S this is an acronym that many people recognize but, I have added another letter. The first S stands for Specific. Your goals need to be specific, general goals do not push you to achieve success. The M is Measurable, without a way to quantify your goal(s), you have no idea if you are making progress. The A is for Attainable, goals that can not be achieved are goals you don’t want to set. R is for Realistic, this means your goals should line up with your company and be within the realm of possibility. T is for Time Orientated, not putting a limited time frame (6 mo. 1 yr, 3 yrs, 5 yrs, 10 yrs) means you can reach that goal whenever and it leads to laziness. The final S is my own addition, it stands for Stretch. Goals should stretch your thinking and ability. Making goals that are too easy to achieve will lead you no where. Yet setting a goal that is just at the tips of your fingers while you’re standing on your toes will cause you to achieve greater then that you thought you could. It pushes you, your company, your employees, and it is the stretch that leads you into greatness.

Goal Setting Will Turn Your Struggles of Today Into Successes Tomorrow

How can goal setting help you? The fact of the matter is it’s hard to find a scenario where it will not be
beneficial to you.Whether you want to believe it or not, you possess an amazing amount of potential
within you, and goal setting can help you dig deep and utilize all that potential to your advantage.

Think of setting goals as your blueprint for all your future successes. You will gain a sense of
direction and satisfaction that will in turn lead to further self growth and development. If you’ve
ever wanted to bring more clarity to your wants and desires, setting goals will help you determine all
your priorities.

Many people use the term ‘success’ very loosely. But what exactly does it mean to be successful? The truth
is success means something different to different people. That is why it’s important for every
individual to come up with their own definition of success and their own guide as to how to get there.
Perhaps to you success means true happiness, or maybe following through and completing goals. Whatever it
means to you it takes desire, planning and action. Being successful also means sticking with it, even when
you don’t want to.

One thing is for sure, you will more quickly find success by setting goals. Let us talk about goals for a
little bit. How do you know when a goal is in fact…a goal? A goal is considered a goal if it
holds a great amount of importance to you and only you. A goal is a task that is reachable, meaning it is
within your power to achieve. A goal is something that is going to positively move you forward and help
you grow in some way.

By using goal setting you will learn how to set proper goals; the kind of goals that directs action, the
kind of goals that will challenge and energize you and the kind of goals that will motivate you to harness
your full potential to achieve it and will encourage you to obtain more knowledge.

Another key component to setting goals is commitment and dedication; they go hand in hand. Commitment is a
direct reflection of how dedicated you are to reaching your goals. Low commitment
means a high possibility that you won’t complete your goal. That is why it is so important to develop
goals that appeal to your interests and values. You and only you must truly feel that the goal is
important and will add some kind of personal value. You must also feel that this goal is within your reach
and is attainable. A goal that is not attainable can lead to an overwhelmed feeling and will most likely
lead to an incomplete goal.

We are constantly bombarded with the hopes and dreams of our friends and loved ones. Everyone is always
wanting to be successful, everyone always wants to be on top. With goal setting you can finally walk
the talk and move up to the top faster than you ever imagined!

A goal setting guide to help you reach all your goals and achieve true success. Whether personal or professional goals; find out how to effectively plan your goals and stay motivated at the same time.
